Considering Adopting A Poodle?
Initial Contact/questions
If you are considering giving a poodle a home PLEASE consider giving a home to one of the many beautiful RESCUE POODLES as an alternative to buying a puppy. Most people do not realise just how many rescue poodles are out there, especially boys! These lads have so much love to give.
We will never turn a dog away. All the poodles (and sometimes other dogs we take in for re-homing) cannot help what colour they are, what sex they were born, what age they are nor their health. They all need to be looked after and deserve a loving, forever home for the rest of their days.
So if you are looking to give a rescue dog a new ‘forever home’, then please call Hanna at Poodles In Need.
You will be asked some questions which will enable us to determine the suitability and will be used to match you to the most appropriate dog. You will be asked to send us a stamped addressed envelope* to us so we can send you a formal enquiry form. The match criteria is generally based on age of person vs. age of dog, if there are other animals or children in the household and exercise requirements etc.. This information is especially important should we not have a suitable dog in our care at the time. We keep it on file to check against for every new dog that comes to us.
* This is to minimise our postage costs as many forms we have sent out just do not come back!
PLEASE, PLEASE...if you find a dog before we can offer you one, DO LET US KNOW. It saves us time, effort and cost in trying to contact you. Many thanks!
Home Check
You will be asked to have a 'Home Check' before any dog is offered to you for adoption. This ensures you have safe entry/exit points, a secure garden and generally the right environment for the dog in question.
Visiting / Choosing your dog
Before you take your dog home with you, you will be asked to bring all family household members and any other dogs you have to see the dog you are interested in. This is to ensure a good match is made. Hanna has been working in Poodle Rescue for many years and has very rarely had a poodle come back. She knows Poodles!!
Conditions of Adoption
Poodles in Need Rescue Adoption Policy strictly states that all micro-chip registration stays in the name of Poodles In Need and will not be transferred to the new owner and if for any reason you are unable to keep any dog for the duration of its life, he/she must be returned to Poodles In Need Rescue.
An adoption fee will be payable and the amount will be based upon the age and condition of the dog. Sadly, a prospective adopter was perturbed to find we were asking £300- adoption fee for a superb young Standard Poodle dog who had been healthchecked, microchipped, neutered, housetrained and basic obedience trained. Therefore to avoid any further misunderstanding, our current adoption fees are between £100 and £300. However, these fees will vary based upon each dog. If you are concerned about the adoption fees, please discuss with Hanna at the outset.
You will also need to sign an Adoption Form agreeing to these terms.
